Weekly Newsletter 15th December 2017

See below for a list of dates for 2018

Huge congratulations to our Basketball Team who won the final of the NBA Jr Tournament on Saturday.  They put in a brilliant performance against Bonaly Primary winning the game 49-12 at Oriam Centre.  That was 12 wins out of 12 for the team!  Thank you to everyone who came along to support and also Mrs Bremner for her fabulous coaching skills.

 Last week at Liberton Primary

  • On Sunday the children from our Liberton After School Club put on a brilliant Christmas Show for their families.
  • On Tuesday we had the first Nativity performance of the year from the Nursery who put on an enchanting version of the Christmas story and sang some wonderful songs.
  • Also on Tuesday and Wednesday our P1 and P2 pupils gave fabulous performances of our nativity Christmas Counts.  Well done to them all for their wonderful singing, acting and musical performances.
  • On Wednesday a group of P3 children went to sing for the Liberton Kirk Guild.
  • Our assembly on Thursday was a Festival of Learning where children were able to show some of their great work; including art, writing, numeracy and even some gymnastic back flips.
  • Also on Thursday the children enjoyed their Christmas Lunch.
  • We also had a brilliant strings concert with our violin and cello players from Primary 4 to Primary 7. All the children played fabulously both in their year groups and as a whole ensemble.
  • On Friday our Nursery had a great Christmas Coffee Morning with lots of lovely crafts and baking made by the children.

 Coming up at Liberton Primary

  • On Monday our Primary 3 pupils will be performing their Carol Concert for the school in the morning and for our families in the afternoon.  All parents and carers of this year group are welcome to attend at 1.30pm.
  • Also on Monday the children from our Festival of Learning assembly last week will have a celebratory tea party.
  • On Tuesday our Primary 1s will have their Christmas Party in the morning and Primary 4 and 5 in the afternoon.
  • On Wednesday our Primary 2 and Primary 3 pupils will have their Christmas Party in the morning and P6/7 will have theirs in the afternoon.
  • Also on Wednesday our Nursery will have their Christmas Party.
  • On Thursday we will have a special farewell assembly for Mrs Sutherland.
  • Also on Thursday afternoon we will have our traditional Christmas singalong for pupils from P1 to P7.
  • On Friday we will sing carols and tell the story of Christmas at our end of term assembly.
  • Also on Friday we will say farewell to Miss Bianca Murray who has done a great job teaching Primary 4 this term.
  • All children will be dismissed at 12pm on Friday.

Christmas Parties

Children are welcome to wear party clothes.  If your child has a party in the morning they can arrive at school in their party clothes but should have school uniform to change into afterwards.  If your child has their party in the afternoon, school uniform should be worn in the morning and then they can change into their party clothes after lunch.  Please make sure clothing is labelled.

After School tuckshop – Friday 22nd Dec

To raise funds for P7 leavers events, parents will be running a ‘pop up’ tuck shop straight after school on the last day of term. Come to the green hut beside the bike shelter and buy a wee treat to celebrate the end of term or get an energy boost to help get you through the first day of the holidays. Cheap prices!

Spare trousers

We would welcome the donation of any old school trousers or plain joggers that could be donated for children who get wet or muddy at breaktimes.  We have run out!

Christmas Cards

As an eco-school we are encouraging children to bring in one card for their class rather than individual cards.  I’m afraid we are not able to hand out class lists.

 Consultation documents

The Scottish Government have launched two consultations which we are encouraging parents to take part in.  The first regards the presumption of mainstreaming and looks at how children with additional support needs are included and supported within mainstream schools.  The second is entitled Empowering Schools and describes a new Education Bill which will have significant impact on how schools are organised and managed.  Links to the consultations can be found at:
