Out in the Garden Floorbook
We have been learning about Living Things this term. We went out into the garden to get ideas for what we would like to learn in this topic. We decided to call the topic ‘Out in the Garden’. We are recording all of our learning in a big Floorbook. You can see the questions we had and all of our learning so far in the photos of our book below.

Signs of Spring
While we were learning about the signs of spring, we spotted lots of blossom on the trees as well as lots of daffodils and other lovely flowers. At the start of term 4 we made pictures of blossom trees using paint. We chose to use either cotton buds or straws to create the effect of the blossom on the branches. We also made some fantastic 3D pictures of flowers – we needed to do really careful cutting for this! We decorated the pot with patterns as we have been learning about these in maths.
We have been learning about the signs of spring. We went out into the playground this week to be ‘Spring Detectives’ to see if we could spot any of these signs. The children took photos on the ipad to record what they found. They took some lovely photos!
We noticed that more and more blossom was appearing on the tree outside our classroom, so we decided to take a photo every so often to keep track of it.
In term 2 we had a block of ICT with Mrs Sutherland, where we were learning to click and drag using the mouse. We made some great pictures of the teachers using Clicker Paint!

Learning Overview January – April 2014
In term 2 our interdisciplinary topic was Fairytales. We read some of the stories and each time a technology challenge arrived!
Jack and the Beanstalk: Jack asked us to build him a new ladder so he could climb back up the beanstalk for another adventure! We had to work in pairs; one person was responsible for the tape and one person for the scissors. The ladder had to be at least as high as the table.
The Three Billy Goats Gruff: The goats asked us to build them another bridge away from the troll. We had lots of materials to choose from and the bridge had to be strong enough to hold a goat (horse!).
The Three Little Pigs: The pigs asked us to build them a house of bricks. They wanted the house to be very strong so the bricks had to overlap. We had to take turns adding each brick to the house.
