Weekly Newsletter 24th May 2024

Highlights from this week at Liberton Primary

  • On Tuesday we had our Eco-Friendly Lunchbox Day.  Thank you to everyone who took part.  See below for information on how we got on.
  • On Wednesday our P1s-to-be enjoyed their time visiting the P1 classrooms and are already looking forward to starting school in August.
  • Also on Wednesday children from P4 and P5 had another tennis taster session at Craigmillar Park Tennis Club.
  • On Thursday our Learning Showcase Assembly was presented by P1s.  They delighted a very enthusiastic audience with their singing, dancing, science, art, mathematics, writing and more.  Well done P1!!
  • Unfortunately the Global Outdoor Classroom Day coincided with the severe weather this week.  We have another loose parts play date planned for next month.

Coming up

  • Next week will be STEM Week across the school.  Children will get a chance to take part in various challenges relating to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
  • Good luck to our team of P7 pupils who will be competing in the Interscholastics Athletics event at Meadowbank Stadium on Monday.
  • On Tuesday Primary 6A will visit the Fruitmarket Gallery to work with our Artist in Residence.
  • Also on Tuesday we will have our final Libby Leaders session of the year.
  • On Wednesday we will have M&M Theatre Company in school to present The Wizard of Oz for all classes.
  • Good luck to our P7 football team as they take part in the semi-finals of the Inspectors Cup on Wednesday.
  • On Thursday we will have our P1 to P7 Sports Day (see letter sent to all children for more details).  Fingers crossed for dry weather!  If the weather is rainy or the park is too wet we will reschedule for the 6th June.

Eco friendly lunch box day

Our eco friendly lunch box day on Tuesday was a great success. Lots of children (and adults) made a huge effort to reduce the single use plastics and brought in reusable packaging instead. The scores were very close with P2B and P5B coming very close to winning, however P7A were the winners with a fantastic total of 95 points.

We hope this day will encourage everyone to continue making eco-friendly choices. Thank you to parents for supporting this event.

There is also a “design a bear” competition  – our talented volunteers make teddys out of donated jumpers that would have otherwise been thrown away – we are asking for your designs which we will display at our summer party on the 20th July  and then 3 will be chosen to be made into actual teddys.  Its open to kids and adults and all we would need is an A4 drawing (in colour) with name, age and a contact detail on the back .
