Weekly Newsletter 10th November 2017

 This week at Liberton Primary

  • On Monday our P7 pupils had a great Transition Day at Liberton High School.  On Tuesday our P5 classes were special guests visiting Edinburgh Zoo for the launch of a new programme linking Japanese with the Zoo Education Programme.
  • On Wednesday the children had their flu-vaccinations.  Many thanks to Mrs McLaughlin and the team from NHS Lothian for making everything go so smoothly.
  • On Thursday Primary 4B started their block of swimming lessons at Gracemount Leisure Centre.
  • Our assemblies on Thursday focussed on promoting reading and Anti-Bullying Week.
  • On Friday we had a Festival of Learners Tea Party for all the children who shared their great work with the school last week.
  • Our basketball team will also head off for another Friday afternoon match.  They have been performing brilliantly in the last few weeks with a string of victories.

 Coming up at Liberton Primary

  • On Wednesday our Philosophers’ Group will be visiting the National Museum of Scotland for a Primary Engineering event.
  • On Thursday our assemblies will be a sharing assemblies based on our Building Resilience theme of Growing Your Mindset.
  • On Friday we will continue our school tradition of supporting Children in Need.  See below for details of our fundraising.

Children in Need 2017

P6a would like to thank everyone who has brought in money for Children in Need over the last two weeks. We have now sold out of merchandise, but colouring competition sheets and rugby raffle tickets will still be available for sale on Monday and Tuesday next week. Please return your completed entries by Wednesday at the latest. On Friday 17th we be holding a dress down day. Come to school wearing spots, yellow or your superhero outfits and we will also be collecting donations on that day.

Enrolments for Primary 1

This week we held our enrolment week for children due to start Primary 1 in August 2018.  It was great to meet so many new parents and some of our future pupils.  If you have not registered your child please contact the school office to make an appointment as soon as possible.  You will need to bring along your child’s birth certificate, your council tax letter and a utility bill from the last six months.

Sporting and Art Success

Well done to Murray Stewart for being selected for the City of Edinburgh Football Squad.  This is a great accolade and I’m sure that Murray will represent both the school and the city brilliantly.  Well done also to Emma Marenduzzo who has been selected as one of the winners of the Winter Windows Competition.  Her artwork will be displayed in Princes Street Gardens over the Christmas period.  This is the most popular of all the Edinburgh school’s art competitions so it is a great achievement for Emma to be selected.

Library Donations

As we move towards opening our new library we would love donations of any good quality used children’s books that your children have perhaps grown out of.  There is a box in the reception area for donations.

Parking

Please ensure that you are parking safely and courteously in the streets around our school.  Do not park on pavements or on bends or obstruct roads or driveways.  At Liberton Primary we pride ourselves on our excellent relationship with our neighbours.  We appreciate your support in this.

Homework Club

We have a number of children who have signed up for Homework Club but are not attending the sessions.  If you no longer wish your child to attend Homework Club please let us know so that we can allocate the place to someone else.

Lego

We would love any donations of leftover Lego that you may have.  Please hand these into the school office.

Liberton After-School Club

Well done to the LASC who were recently inspected by the Care Inspectorate and received a Grade 5 (Very Good) for their quality of care. The full report is available on the Care Inspectorate website.    The club currently has some spaces on Fridays:  £13 for full afternoon or £5 for 12.30pm -1.30pm

Liberton Primary School Association

LPSA is asking for volunteers and donations to help with presenting a festive Christmas Fair!  The following items would be greatly appreciated:  gently used toys and books, home baking, items for pocket money presents and tombola, decorations and raffle items (vouchers, hamper items, poinsettia plants, new books, new toys, etc). We also really need volunteers on the day and for set up the day before. See our Facebook page for updates.  Please bring items to the office by Friday 1st December for collection.  There will also be a sign up sheet for volunteers at the school office from next week or contact lpsa.communications@gmail.com if you can help in any way. Thank you from the Christmas Fair team.

Christmas Fair Saturday 2nd December 2-4pm!

 LPSA Nativity Photos

Every year the LPSA organises photos of the infant nativity so that parents can relax and enjoy show. Photo orders are taken after the show (keeping costs as low as possible) and families receive their order before the end of term.

We are urgently looking for a photographer to take the photos at this year’s dress rehearsal, on Monday 11th December (1.30pm to 2.30pm). If you are an experienced photographer, or know a photographer who’d be willing to do the job as a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you – please contact the LPSA on lpsa.communications@gmail.com

This has been a very popular fundraiser in the past – please help us to keep the tradition going!
