Weekly Newsletter 26th April 2024

Highlights from this week at Liberton Primary

  • On Tuesday our Primary 1 to 3 children visited the Book Bus.
  • Also on Tuesday Primary 6A had a great time at the Fruitmarket Gallery visiting the new exhibition by Martin Boyce and working with our artist in residence.
  • On Wednesday, the Evening News photographer was in school for our Primary 7 pupils.
  • Also on Wednesday we had another very successful loose parts play day.  It was wonderful to see the children showing such creativity and collaboration in their outdoor learning.
  • On Thursday our assembly for Nursery to P3 introduced our Building Resilience Look on the Brightside unit with a focus on being grateful for the good things in our lives.
  • On Thursday we will welcome visitors from the City of Edinburgh Quality Improvement Team and local headteachers to share our practice in writing.  They were very impressed with the learning ethos of the school, our children’s hard-working attitude and the supports that teachers and staff put to develop pupil’s writing.

Coming up

  • This term our Primary 5 and Primary 6 classes will have Bikeability as part of their PE lessons.
  • On Tuesday we will have our first Libby Leaders session of the Summer term.
  • Also on Tuesday Alice Dansey-Wright, our Artist in Residence will be in school working with P6A.
  • On Thursday it will be the turn of our P5 classes to present their Learning Showcase Assembly.  All parent, carers and families of our P5s are very welcome to attend.

Sports Day

This year our Sports Day for Primary 1 to Primary 7 will from 9.20am to 11.45am on Thursday 30th May.  In case of wet weather, we will reschedule for Thursday 6th June.  Parents, carers and families are very welcome to attend.

Libby Leaders Promoting Reading Group

Well done to our Promoting Reading Group who have been awarded £500 of Waterstones vouchers (to be spent in the store at Cameron Toll) from the Cameron Toll Community Fund.  They are looking forward to a shopping trip to top up our library stock.

Car Park

A reminder that the staff and visitor car park should not be used for pick-up and drop-off.  There have been concerning reports of young children being in the car park after school with many cars driving through or double parking.

Football Update

  • Well done to our Primary 7 football team who are through to the second round of the Inspectors Cup following victories over Pentland Primary and Currie Primaries on Wednesday.  Well played boys!
  • Liberton Lightning P6/7 team won again, this time 7-1 versus Buckstone. After going 0-1 down in a tight first half, goals from Amy (4), Eli, Lucy, and Isla made it quite comfortable in the end. Missing a few regular starters made this all the more impressive. Strong performances from Chiara and Renee on right and left midfield respectively. Imogen and Zuzanna in defence looked like they could play for another hour and not concede any more goals. Player of the match with an excellent performance from start to finish was Amy.

Free School Meals

If you are eligible, please remember to apply for Free School meals and uniform provision.  This is particularly important for children in P6 and P7, but for ALL years claiming this benefit can enable you to get additional support for school activities and can also increase funding available to the school to support with our children.

Recent changes:

From 1 April, children and young people will be eligible to receive free school meals through targeted provision if their parents or carers are in receipt of any of the following:

  • Income support;
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance;
