Weekly Newsletter 26th January 2024

Highlights from this week at Liberton Primary

  • This week the children took part in Reflection week, spending time looking back over their learning for the year and making plans and targets for the rest of the session.
  • Beginners Arabic and Guitar Club both started this week.
  • Unfortunately, due to the storms this week we had to cancel our Loose Parts Play Day.
  • On Wednesday our P7s greatly enjoyed their ‘If I were an Engineer’ workshop.
  • On Thursday our P2s presented a fabulous Learning Showcase Assembly.  They showcased all their great learning about Robert Burns and Scots Poems and Songs, including their own Scottish version of the Cha Cha Slide.
  • On Friday we hosted our annual Scots Assemblies, where children sung songs, share poetry and enjoyed dancing and instrumental performances.  Thank you to Charlie Lang from the Scottish Poetry Library, Valerie Agnew from the LASC and our own Sharon Law for being judges.  The children, as always, were fabulous and the judges were greatly impressed with their confidence and ability.  Congratulations to all our participants and winners and particularly to Zaara from P6 and Iona from P3 who won the Sandy Jobling trophies.

One World Celebration Wednesday 28th February from 3.15pm to 4.15pm.

We are still looking for more volunteers and countries to sign up for our One World Celebration.  So far we have China, USA, England and France represented.  We would love to have many more.  You can sign up at https://forms.office.com/e/K8unMEFXxx or get in touch for more information.

For this celebration we invite families from our school community to bring in some samples of traditional or favourite food that pupils and parents could try.  We will have tables set up for the various nations involved and children will complete a passport for each stall they visit.  There will be a small charge for the session so that parents can reclaim the cost of the food they bring.

Sporting Update

Well done to William in P7 who was a Half Time Hero at the exciting Hearts game at Tynecastle on Tuesday.  If any child from the school knows they are going to be part of the pre-match or half-time activities at Easter Road, Tynecastle, Meadowbank, Murrayfield or any other big event please let us know.  We can put it in the newsletter so everyone can look out for their big moment.

Free Bike Offer

At The Bike Station, we believe that bikes should be as accessible as possible, especially for kids as they grow out of their bikes quickly. That is why we provide our Wee Bike Library service, where families can borrow bikes for free and exchange them for the next size up as their kids grow!
