Weekly Newsletter 1st March 2024

Highlights from this week at Liberton Primary

  • This week we have been celebrating our wonderfully international school community by hosting another One World Week.  Children have been learning about all the various nationalities represented in our school, with a particular focus on music and food.  On Wednesday we had an excellent turnout of over 200 people for our One World Celebration, where children and families were able to try foods from 14 different countries.  Thank you to all the parents and staff who so generously provided food for us all, everyone loved the event.  Thank you also to the families who took part in online calls and who came into school to share their heritage.
  • On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome Alice Dansey-Wright, who will be our Artist in Residence from the Fruitmarket Gallery.
  • On Thursday, our Primary 2 and Primary 7 children loved learning about space in the Royal Observatory mobile planetarium.
  • On Friday we completed our One World Week with an assembly for Primary 4 to Primary 7 where children talked about all the food, music, geography, maths and much more that they had learned about this week.

Coming up

  • On Tuesday will be having another Libby leaders session. Also on Tuesday, our artist in residence will have her first full session working with Primary 6A.
  • On Wednesday, we will have Coldwell Photography in school to take our class group photos.  We look forward to seeing the children looking smart in their school uniform. See attachment for more information.
  • On Thursday, we will be celebrating World Book Day. Children are welcome to bring in an item as a clue which represents a favourite book or book character that they can talk about in class.  We will also have a book scavenger hunt in the playground for the children to try.
  • Our assembly on Thursday will be focussed on role models, International Women’s Day and World Book Day. On Friday we are also delighted to welcome a group of Samba drummers to the school as a follow up to One World Week.
